Andy completed his Bachelor of Science in Heath and Physical activity concentrating in Exercise Science and Master of Science in Health, Physical Activity and Chronic Disease at the University of Pittsburgh. Previously, he has worked for the University of Pittsburgh as a research associate. Since 2013, his research work focused on scientifically developing an injury prevention and performance optimization program that is culturally specific and dynamically responsive to the unique tactical demands of the U.S Air Force Special Tactics Operator and U.S Army Special Operations Forces. His research interests include exercise interventions for injury prevention and performance optimization among elite athletes and military personnel.

Zack received a Bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He has been the biochemistry lab technician since 2013. His skillset includes familiarity with HPLC analysis and multiple biochemical assays.

Audrey Is currently working on getting her Bachelors from Purdue University. Previously, she worked as an Accounting Specialist for the GEARUP Program at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. She is a United State Marine Corp veteran and she is CPR certified. She is very excited to be here at the NCRC HPL!

Andrew is a senior at Greensboro College who is double majoring in Exercise Science and Health Science with a double minor in Biology and Humanities. Andrew is a member of the George Center for Honors Studies at Greensboro College and is an officer of both the Student Honors Association and the Kinesiology Club. Andrew plans to pursue a M.S. in Exercise Physiology after completing his undergraduate studies.
Laurel M. Wentz, PhD, RD, CSSD
Title: Assistant Professor, Nutrition

Dr. Wentz is an Assistant Professor in Nutrition at Appalachian State University, a Registered Dietitian, and a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics. She has a PhD in Nutrition and Food Science from Florida State University, where she was also the Sports Dietitian for the Seminoles Athletics Departments. She has a MS from the University of Florida and a BS from Pennsylvania State University. Her research focus is sports nutrition to improve health and performance, by examining how nutrition influences metabolism, inflammation, and immune function during exercise. Dr. Wentz is visiting the Human Performance Lab for the summer to collaborate with Dr. Nieman and the ASU team.
